This & That

Warning: This is an extremely random post!

Hello friends! It’s a GREAT morning here. It’s supposed to reach 81 today. Hallelujah! I’m sporting some flip-flops today … it’s bound to be a good day! :)

I’m officially committed to the graduate school route – I’ve spent hours working on the massive application (which I turned in yesterday!) and am scheduled to take the GMAT test next Monday. This is really happening!

Monday marked three months until graduation. Wow. This is really happening!

This semester is going well. It’s been quite the shock to my system and I couldn’t figure out why until just recently. From last May to December, I went full force … as a result I’m only taking 4 classes this semester (a pretty sweet pay-off). Well one of my classes is straight lecture, so unless I need to study for a test, I only have to go to that class – there’s no outside work. Another one of my classes is an internship, so I have very little to do outside of going to my job. That only leaves 2 classes that have regular assignments. I don’t know what to do with all this free time! :)

In that free time, I’ve done lots of reading FOR FUN. It’s been amazing!! I just have to tell you about one of the best books I’ve read. It’s Jerry Bridges’ Respectable Sins: Confronting the Sins We Tolerate. A summary of this book wouldn’t do it justice. Just read it. And you should probably invest in some steel-toed boots because the author isn’t afraid of stepping on your toes! I loved it!

I’m all for giving credit where credit is due, so this idea was my Dad’s and I just borrowed it. Each month we’re focusing on some area/attitude/action – January was lying and February is critical spirit month. I thought January would be easy. Ha! I had to re-start the count every time someone asked me “How are you?” and I responded with a “I’m fine. How are you?” before I could even catch the words. Grrr. That proved to be quite the challenge. I’m so glad February is critical spirit month because … (are you ready for this?) February is the shortest month!!! Oh surely you weren’t expecting some overly-spiritual reason! No lie – this month has been down-right hard. There have been MANY times when I’ve thought or said “It must be critical spirit month!” based on peoples’ actions. I have the choice to make. How will I respond? We joke about being glad when a new month starts, but that’s not the true mindset. It’s supposed to build on itself. I’m amazed at how when you start to focus on something you realize how often you do it without noticing. But God notices. All the time. Even if it’s not “Critical Spirit Month.” As I flopped down on the couch the other day after a very trying critical spirit day, I told my dad that I’ve felt more defeated this year than any year before … and it’s only 6 weeks into the new year! That’s when it clicked … that’s the point. Not that I should live defeated all the time, but that it’s an excellent reminder of the grace He generously lavishes on me EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. When I get a glimpse of just how much I need Him and I see a smidgen of how awful of a sinner I am, it draws me back to Him with a heart of gratitude. It keeps His death, burial, and resurrection on the front of my mind. Now that’s a good thing!

A Challenge

This may totally be against all the bloggin’ rules, but well … I’ve never really been one for going with the flow. I took the term “strong-willed child” to a whole new level. So … I’m issuing a blogging challenge.

I first saw this idea HERE, but she linked to others who have done it too. The challenge is to write a letter to your 20 year old self. Since the purpose is to share some wisdom with your younger self, I cannot participate in this challenge ~ I’m 2 months away from turning 20.

So, do you accept the challenge? If so, let me know. I want to read your letters!!
